MATHS

At Emmanuel Holcombe, our Maths curriculum is organised into two strands: Maths Fluency and Power Maths.  Maths Fluency sessions promote the efficient, accurate recall of key number facts and procedures.  These mastering number skills are essential tools, enabling flexibility so that children can think deeply about concepts and problems in Power Maths sessions.

Our school is proud to be involved in Teacher Research Groups with the Northwest 1 Maths Hub to ensure that our teachers continually develop their specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics, working collaboratively on a regular basis to refine and improve their teaching.

Our core Maths lessons follow Power Maths.  Power Maths is a mastery programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths. We have chosen this approach for the following reasons:

• Power Maths perfectly aligns to the White Rose Maths progressions and schemes of learning.

• The scheme is written specifically for UK curriculum classrooms, by leading mastery experts from around the world and recommended by the UK’s Department for Education.

• It is an enriched approach that cleverly combines interactive teaching tools, rich and quality textbooks and practice books.

• It is built around a child‑centred lesson design that models and embeds a growth mindset approach to maths and focuses on helping all children to build a deep understanding of maths concepts.
